Simulation systems have become increasingly effective at creating realistic training environments and capturing human performance data. Modern platforms can replicate complex operational scenarios, record participant actions, and generate detailed debrief or After Action Reviews (AAR). Despite these advances, a fundamental gap remains in how simulation is used to develop competency.

Modern simulation systems are highly effective at creating training experiences and identifying performance deficiencies, but they lack a structured mechanism to transform those observations into measurable competency development.

Today, simulation-based training typically follows a common cycle: a scenario is executed, performance is evaluated, and an AAR is conducted. While deficiencies are identified and discussed, there is often no systematic process that converts those findings into targeted follow-on training scenarios designed to correct deficiencies and advance individual performance. As a result, simulation systems have become highly effective at observing performance, but less effective at systematically improving it.

This challenge is becoming increasingly important as simulation platforms continue to expand their ability to capture performance data, telemetry, biometrics, and other training metrics. The training community now has access to more performance data than ever before, yet there remains a limited ability to convert that information into structured pathways for individual development.

CLAiTS (Closed Loop A.I. Training System) addresses this gap by providing a competency development framework that integrates with existing simulation platforms. CLAiTS ingests training doctrine, standards, and governing protocols; captures human performance data during simulation events; measures performance against established training requirements; and generates adaptive follow-on training scenarios designed to address identified deficiencies while reinforcing strengths.

Rather than treating each simulation event as an isolated experience, CLAiTS creates a continuous training cycle in which every event directly influences the next. The result is a training ecosystem that synchronizes simulation with doctrine, enables alignment to unit-level tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs), and ensures that participants receive targeted training designed to keep them progressing within their optimal learning and performance zone. Improved competency at the individual and collective level contributes directly to improved readiness, making simulation systems more effective tools for developing operational capability.
